BPS meeting notes:Attendees:
Not Lakshay, whoops
Personal updates:
Lakshay: comp was tiring af, Delta flight got cancelled so Jacob and I drove back to Austin and flew from Austin back to LA Was not expecting to go to Pickle but shit is wack
Team updates:
Comp is done! We may not have been able to get on the track, but we were still able to drive the car without issues (at least on the BPS end)
There are many lessons learned from this year and comp, which will be informing our design for next year
Current plan for next year:
Deploy a new verified BPS using the SOMs and our new hardware
Use the old verified BPS as a backup that we can easily swap in and out
Hella push for embedded-SharePoint and SOM development
Overall architecture changes:
The whole electrical team will be making design changes to make electromechanical's lives easier
ie a zonal architecture
On the BPS end our architecture will be staying the same since BPS is already zonal, but future design will be placing an emphasis on ease of wiring and mounting
Hardware that needs to be made:
All of it
VoltTemp and leader have gotten pretty far in the dev cycle, they'll need to be changed, but since both boards have completed a full PCB design cycle we can order and test them while new versions are being made
Thoughts on splitting VoltTemp into 2 separate PCBs?
We’d have a Voltage PCB and a Temperature PCB
Old BPS had Voltage and Temperature on the same board solely cuz LTC bs, with the SOMs there's not rlly a reason to do that.
PeripheralSOM is mostly verified, but we'll need to make a good number of changes so we need to reverify a lot of stuff
LeaderSOM has not been verified in the slightest but is designed to share a lot of the same circuitry as peripheral
A lot of verification can also be new member projects like the 7 segment and SD Card
need to start Amperes PCB
Scrutineering PCB
Poor PTC fuse part selection made us have to do a jank fix at comp
We should look into efuses for that
The scrutineering boards can also act as a shared interface between new BPS and old BPS
Good new member project
Need a good way to do temp scrutineering
Software:
a lot of embedded SharePoint work
Reaching an mvp of a solid plan for makefiles, init, and unit testing is the goal before new members come in
Heavy emphasis on event RTOS stuff in each layer of BPS
We’ll be moving to an emphasis on unit tests and CI/CD stuff so we can verify different levels of code without requiring the lower levels
new ideas for simulator?
Recruitment:
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I need 1-3 people to head up helping me with recruitment
Extra time reqs - attending general LHR and solar recruitment meetings
Doing interviews
Meeting with me and the rest of the BPS interviewers to pick new members
Most of this work will be outside workdays
What to expect in the incoming weeks:
Teamwide and electrical post comp reflections
New electrical architecture meeting
Embedded-Sharepoint design meeting
Task updates:
I assume nothing from most people lmao, that's chill
I hope everyone was able to enjoy their summer, but now that we're getting back into the swing of things imma be expecting stuff from y'all
New member onboarding:
Probably gonna do an intro BPS presentation that explains what we do, some common terms, our architecture, and some random stuff
Will be coupled with an intro electrical presentation
There r a lot of new member software tasks, but not many new member hw tasks
possible hw tasks: updated leader board, scrutineering board, and maybe Temperature board?
Scrutineering board: new ptc fuses
Leader board: Bluetooth, 3 vs 4 wire fan logic can be improved, pick a cheaper mosfet driver that we can standardize between all systems, inline connector for EStop
Temperature board: May not be an interesting project cuz we'd just copy the circuit alr made on VoltTemp
Funny ideas i have: BPS HITL board
sw tasks: BPS
Social:
Thoughts on BPS social when the year starts before new members have joined? Lmk any ideas y'all have
