4th Year Course Scheduling Requirements

• Acting Internships - 8 weeks (4 weeks must be in a CORE AI, indicated below)
• Critical Care - 4 weeks
• Electives - 22 weeks
  • Maximum 12 weeks of away electives 
    • • 4 weeks of "aways" may count towards the non-core AI graduation requirement if:
        • a. Dell Med does not offer an AI in that clinical specialty,
        • b. Approval from the Departmental Associate-Chair for Education (or their delegate) is given after reviewing the structure and learning objectives of the AI at another institution, and
        • c. The Departmental Associate-Chair for Education (or their delegate) emails the course scheduler with approval. 
        • d. You receive approval prior to the start of your rotation
  • Maximum 8 weeks of 2-week electives (including electives completed in Year 2 and/or Year 3)
  • Maximum 4 weeks of Professional Development electives; included in the 2-week elective count

Clinical Dermatology (MED 580DE)

• Maximum 3 students, 2 spots each month are reserved for students who are seeking a residency in Dermatology. 
• The number in the parentheses indicates how many spots are available each rotation for non-career seeking students. These career-seeking spots can be occupied by DMS students planning a career in Dermatology, visiting students planning a career in Dermatology, or DMS students not planning a career in Dermatology who have received approval by the department to rotate at that time. If applicable, please submit email approval with add request.
• Add or drop requests must be submitted a minimum of 2 months in advance due to the compliance requirements for this elective

Global Health (MED 580GH)

• Maximum 4 students
• This course requires in-person attendance in Kenya during the Dell Med elective period 11 (March/April), and has a restricted number of student seats due to its funding from the Division of Global Health. Registration for this course requires a submitted application and faculty support letter, as well as a panel interview with the Chief of the Division of Global Health. Application cycle opens in August for eligible MS4s only. Processing time is 2-3 months for internal review and committee approval. Accepted students will participate in a pre-departure orientation series alongside accompanying faculty supervisors.
