Announcements

Great job with the workday, we got a lot done!

  • I would like to see if everyone can be at workday by 9:30, that means no info at the start is missed and we can maximize workday.

Mostly been doing research over how to optimize for bump steer. More info on the confluence page I wrote last week.

Understanding the forces that are applied on the rear trailing arm and considering designs that could be used as a starting reference point when starting to CAD the rear trailing arm. Still trying to understand the axle diameter ordeal our unsprung group was working on from workday.

Code for min axel dia:

  • Apparently not right according to Phillip but he has some input and we r gonna meet tomorrow so after his meeting we can then decide on next steps and ill code it up

Code for brake calcs:

  • Brake calcs are fully done however I need the data sheets from other calipers back from our ops team so I can then see which caliper gives us the smallest horizontal stackup w/ the smallest weight and rotor diameter.

Depending on how much time I have, I'm going to try and make all of these programs an excel sheet at one point since excel is easier for people w/ no programming experience to see, but i lowkey don't like excel since you gotta type in the formals into cells and from an initial glance you cant see the formulas, but its whatever

formula i was trying for some calculations:

I feel like the first thing we need to do is have FBDs that actually make sense so I was trying to do that, but it was kind of difficult.

extra research on multi-axial loading and bearing calcs:

BellCrank paper.png

-mostly research this week about bellcrank optimization

-haven’t pirated any kinematics software. Probably won’t 😞

-trying to understand what goes into the motion ratio and what our desired motion ratio should be

-kinda a side project but I’ve started reading through a textbook on modeling vehicle dynamics for the goal of having our own software to model everything in (long term af)

I’ve just been collecting research on staking, retaining rings, and squashing as methods of designing and manufacturing my control arms. Here is a link to my research document. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IdqX6nkDeXx6cVnuxuoVnxBk9VOefx8lJAReDgqMFmE/edit?usp=sharing

Workday Plan

Plan together

Next week Plan

  • Kayla Lee -

  • Evan Zhang -

  • Samiksh Medudula -

  • Andrew Chang -

  • William Lai -

  • Joshua Palacios -

  • Sumana Subramanian -

    • Figuring out how multi-axial loading works, understand static loading on the axle in order to find minimum diameter for bearing calcs

    • run FEA on Solidworks

  • Jonathan Truong -

    • Working with Manas on the rear trailing arm, understanding the split between suspension and unsprung

    • Start mocking up and designing the trailing arm in program

    • Axle diameter

  • Sohan Kureti

    • Using data sheet provided by brembo (whoever we get it), try out diff calipers in the program and see how small we can make the rotor size, then compare that against min thickness to see which one is the least mass. Also need to see the dimensions of these calipers as a smaller rotor would not be ideal if the horizontal stackup increases a good amount.

    • Also, looking more into min dia for the axel, testing different materials, making the program and the equations / logic behind it right. Also then adapting that for a hollow axle and seeing the weight differences.

  • Carter Peeler -

  • La'akea Lancial -

  • Oliver Ludington -

  • Manas Jain -

Goals for myself

  • Help steering with steering optimization

  • Help figure out axle calcs for unsprung
