General Information

The Department of Educational Psychology offers Teaching Assistant (TA), Assistant Instructor (AI), and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) positions to Educational Psychology graduate students each semester. These positions are primarily available to those EDP students who are in their second year and beyond. Recipients of half-time teaching or research assistantships are typically eligible for an exemption of the out-of-state portion of their tuition.

Position Types

  • Graduate Research Assistants. Students interested in a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position should read about faculty research interests and contact faculty directly, then complete the application below.
  • Teaching Assistants. Students interested in a Teaching Assistant (TA) position are encouraged to talk to the instructor of the course directly, and then complete the application below. Class listings/schedules for upcoming semesters can be viewed via the Course Schedule on the Registrar's page. 
  • Assistant Instructors. Students eligible for employment as Assistant Instructors (AI) should apply via the application link below. AIs may only teach lower-division undergraduate courses: EDP undergrad courses that are traditionally often AI-taught are EDP 304 Strategic Learning for the 21st CenturyEDP 308 Statistical Literacy and Reasoning, and EDP 316 Intergroup Dialogue.

In addition to these campus wide regulations, Educational Psychology requirements also include:

  • To be eligible for an AI or a TA position in a particular course, the student must have taken the course or an approved equivalent, and be recommended by the course instructor.
  • In the appointment of TA's for ALD classes, preference is given to students who have teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level.
  •  Appointment Appointment as an AI requires that students have completed the course 398T College Teaching Methodology (in Educational Psychology or in another department).
  • EDP AI and TAs must complete the EDP Student Employee Orientation before beginning AI/TA duties.
