| Once Audition is open, at the top, click Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware. Once Audio Hardware is open, Navigate to the Device input drop down menu. Make sure the "Microphone (RODE NT-USB)" is selected. For Output this should be your headphones (It is important that you use the headphones the entire time you are recording to ensure everything is working properly.) | Once Audacity is open, At the top, click Edit > Preferences. Adjust & Test MicrophoneThe front of the mic is the side with the gold dot . Place your mouth about 5 inches from the front of the mic and speak into it. NEVER BLOW INTO THE MIC - you can destroy the element! To help reduce plosives (breath pops from "P's" & "Th's" in your speech), try speaking slightly across the front of the mic rather than directly into the front element. | | |
Adjust Levels | With Audition, levels are adjusted through your normal computer settings. That includes both mic and headphone settings. | To adjust the input level of the Rode Mic, locate the input level slider and adjust until the recording meter sits between -9dB and -6dB. Note: To see the meter in action, double-click the meter and you should begin to see signal. Also, while adjusting your input level slider, make sure you are speaking into the mic to make adequate adjustments.

Record your audio | When you are ready to record, click the "waveform" button in the top left corner to create a new track. Image Added Once you've set your settings, your new track will be created, now you are ready to record. Press the record button near the bottom to begin recording.
