Dept Comments. This is where any comments about the field that you do not want to be overwritten can be entered. I use it to put the name of the person who has the item. Sometimes I put comments about how to locate the item. Ex: This item is a small, square black object inside a blue case under the wooden bench in the back of the room. There is no corresponding field in WHD.
WHD Fields
MAC address. There is a field for this in WHD (4 actually), but there is no field in *DEFINE. Or at least, it’s not visible and data cannot be entered into it. NETL actually runs from an Excel spreadsheet of MAC addresses, but I’m not sure where that comes from. In any case, it would be very nice to have a field in *DEFINE where the MAC address could be entered and have that be used for NETL.
Warranty Type. WHD has information about the warranty. There is no corresponding field in *DEFINE.
Off Campus Form. WHD has fields to capture whether or not an item has an off-campus form on file. There is no corresponding field in *DEFINE. Since *DEFINE does allow an entry of ‘home’ or something like that for Location, it might be nice if, when the user put that code in, the system forced the user to indicate whether or not the proper paperwork had been done.
CCART Doc ID. The only place to see CCART history in *DEFINE is to review the history on screen 3.
Notes: Currently there is no way to capture the ISORA data so that re-locating the assets is not necessary for the inventory report. Since someone has to touch the computers once a year for ISORA and someone has to touch the same computers to do Inventory, it would be nice to be able to combine those activities.
