- must be between 12 and 32 characters in length
- must contain at least two of the following: letters, numbers, and special characters. Spaces are permitted as special characters. The other special characters that are permitted are ! @ # $ % & * ( ) - + = , < > : ; " ' . (PLEASE NOTE: The Virtual Private Network (VPN) does not allow double quotation marks (") in passwords. If you use the VPN, do not include double quotations (") in your password.)
- cannot contain the UT EID
- cannot contain the birthday in any form
- cannot contain the first, middle, or last name
- any words or character combinations found in a list of common passwords that are considered insecure. Words in this list are not allowed even when you use symbols to represent letters (for example, @ for a, ! for i, or zero for O)
- may contain spaces. However, there may not be a space as the first or last character.
EID Password Change User Guide (Checklist)
- Consider a time when technical support will be available to assist should any issues arise. The UT Service Desk offers phone support Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm and in person from 8am - 6pm in the Flawn Academic Center (FAC). ECE-IT can provide assistance by guiding you through this process, but we have limited access EID accounts.
- Changing your EID password will impact applications such as: UTDirect, Workday, Office 365 (web, mobile apps, Outlook), UT Wi-Fi, UT VPN.
