F. Douglas Martin has compiled characters for all of Texas' fish species and more from the literature. He produced 30 family-level matircies matrices first published in 2015 and updated those and added another 47 in May 2018. Each spreadsheet can be filtered on characters and is meant to be used as an aid to species determinations in conjunction with or in place of dichotmous dichotomous keys.
