Because of the gear ratios, the RPM of the fan is reduced by 160, (Gear ratio of 160:1), and this output will drive the 4 bar mechanism, the short length being fixed.
The reduced motion output acts at the input for a double rocker 4 bar mechanism which allows the fan head to oscillate side to side.
To conduct the kinematic analysis measurements and estimates need to be made. These include:
- The RPM estimate for the fan at high and low setting,
- The measurement of the number of teeth on gears for the gear reducers,
- The pitch of the worm gear,
- The lengths of the four bar mechanism.
Once these measurements have been taken, MATLAB code was used to conduct kinematic analysis. A copy of the code has been included in the next section for reference.
