Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to create a wall mounted kinetic sculpture that utilizes several fundamental mechanism design principles in an aesthetically pleasing fashion. The chosen design features a man continuously ascending a rotating globe while pushing a spinning boulder, which is intended to emulate the Greek myth of Sisyphus, a titan forever doomed to eternally roll a boulder up a mountain as punishment for angering the gods. The Sisyphean figure has moving legs and arms using two coupled four bar mechanisms to drive the arms and legs. A single actuator will be used to drive the motion for the boulder, globe, arms and legs.
