Our sponsor, Javier, is

wheelchair bound

paraplegic and has limited hand movement. He tasked us with creating an arm extension mechanism with grasping capabilities that would be able to assist him with activities of daily living. He specifically has trouble reaching objects that are dropped on the floor, or high up on shelves. With this information in mind, we set out to design an arm extension mechanism that could reach high and low while providing enough grasping force to pickup and return objects.
