Faculty appointments occur once a year in concert with the University's academic calendar.
TIMELINE
October: faculty appointment request requests are accepted
November: the Psychiatry Executive Committee reviews all requests
December: final appointment decisions, dossier requirements, and deadlines are communicated to all applicants
April: dossiers are submitted to the Department of Medical Education for approval
September: new faculty appointments begin September 1st
HOW TO REQUEST A FACULTY APPOINTMENT
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest accompanied by a current CV to dellmedpsych@austin.utexas.edu during the month of October.
ANNUAL FACULTY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for a faculty appointment, faculty must meet the criteria established by Dell Medical School.
Affiliate faculty are expected to provide substantive service to Dell Medical School and must engage in faculty professional development. The Department of Psychiatry expects affiliate faculty to contribute forty (40) hours of meaningful service and engage in an additional six (6) hours of faculty development each year, on average.
Regular faculty are expected to contribute an average of 10% effort each year to the success of the DMS mission, including twelve (12) hours of faculty development. Regular faculty are expected to make quality contributions in each of the following areas:
(1) clinical supervision of DMS students or residents;
(2) faculty development, such as grand rounds, journal club or CME educational credits;
(3) scholarly contributions via teaching, presentations, leadership or research.

All faculty will report their service and faculty development activities annually. The renewal of faculty appointments is contingent on meeting the substantive service and faculty development requirements each year.
