Basic suspension overview again - SIMPLIFIED

Go over notes of the video together

  • Go over questions

Go over the starter project - 1 hour to work on it

  • Explain it step by step and show my model

Go over assignments with DAYBREAK

  • Explain in detail the different geom and design changes for it

  • Control arm

  • Bearing selection

  • Extender fix

I walk through Esther master model - if i can finish it

Calculate physical geometry for Ackerman for 6 bar

Daybreak tasks (still needs to understand more)

Mockup designing (architecture pros and cons)

  • Brackets (mounting with wishbones and steering)

  • Hubs

  • Axle/Spindle

  • Upright

Research

  • Figuring out deliverables today

  • Sumi: bearings

  • Sohan: brakes

  • Jonathan: tires

Gerard and Philip lecture on CAD best practices and naming convention

Reference sketch for the practice suspension geometrys

Look into specific things related to suspension

  • Oliver and Manas – bearing calcs

  • Carter - FEA and sims

  • La’akea - composite pushrods

  • See if Jacob can help with geometry

  • Learn on upper steering and u joints, and in the mean time we figure things out with Jacob to figure out lower steering geometry

Harshit quote me to my members-

  • “y'all are amazing and GOATED”

Workday plans:

  • Create a drawing with the dimensions of the old parts.

  • Use critical points/dimension to create a reference sketch.

    • Model next gen parts/ make mock up cad.

  • Develop a good understanding of bearing preload and how to properly torque the hub nut.

    • figure out if we want to do positional preload or use something like wave springs.

  • Continue doing research and collaborate on teaching each other what we have learned about our topics.

End of workday meeting

  • Everyone goes through what they did first members then subleads

  • Subleads tell their members what they will be doing throughout the week (technical things related to their task)

  • General thing they will be doing throughout the week (CAD)

Technical Homework:

  • Figure this out

  • Video

  • Chapter 8 of The Winning Solar Car (optional for suspension)

  • Chapter 2 and 5 of Tune to Win (optional for suspension)

CAD Homework:

  • Figure this out

  • Model Manias:

  • Easier:

  • Harder:

    2020

Feel free to let me know if this is too much.

  • Do whichever one you want and if you have time you can just do both

  • Technical Homework:

    • Figure this out

  • Vsusp reference sketch

  • Front suspension chapter - Winning Solar Car

  • Rear suspension chapter - Winning Solar Car
