THE DESIGN LAB (DESL)
The Design Lab is located in ART 2.212
CURRENT LAB HOURS:
Monday - Thursday, 10am - 6pm(ish)
Staff are usually present during these times.
Trained students (and faculty) can access the space 24/7, though some resources are closed after-hours, like our computers and digital printers. After completing an orientation with Henry, students and faculty are furnished with a door code to access the lab.
APPOINTMENTS & TRAINING
Access to specific equipment in the lab requires specialized training, which faculty can schedule with Henry, either independently or as a training session in their course.
Arrange for an orientation, or request an appointment with Henry by using these links:
AHG — https://calendly.com/henry_smith/ahg
DESL — https://calendly.com/henry_smith/desl
Henry and the DESL team can offer workshops or activities that utilize the lab resources--such as letterpress or screen printing, photo documentation, digital printing, etc. Get in touch with Henry to discuss how SDCT's facilities can be featured in the curriculum.

Wednesday: 8am – 8pm
Thursday: 8am – 8pm
Friday: 10am – 3pm
There are up-to-date monthly calendars posted on both the northern and western doors. Also on the western doors there is a detailed view of the schedule.
Students, Staff, and Faculty are encouraged to drop by those doors to see what the hours are, and to contact Khan with any questions.
SHOPS AT AHG
THE AHG ANAFAB (ANALOG FABRICATION/WOODSHOP)
This combination of shops is tentatively open. Once new technicians can be trained, and their hours posted regularly, the AHG AnaFab will have a more robust schedule.
The lab is not accessible to anyone outside of open hours, and a shop technician must be present for safety reasons.
Students must attend a lab orientation session (generally 1-2 hours), to be scheduled during class times.
Henry will hold periodic training sessions for anyone in the building.
THE AHG DIGIFAB (DIGITAL FABRICATION LAB)
DigiFab offers a variety of 3D printing options, as well as laser cutting.
It is managed by the Robotics program, with Henry as SDCT's ambassador to the space.
Training to operate the laser cutter is handled by Henry.
For use of the 3D printing facilities, faculty and students will contact Keith, the main shop technician (email at keith.fritz@utexas.edu). These 3D printing services differ from those offered by the ART FabLab. Students provide their own material for printing, and handle the process themselves (with staff support as needed). Once trained, students can get card access to the Digifab to access on their own.
Faculty seeking to utilize the AHG labs as a component of their classes should contact Henry to coordinate training, and to discuss course opportunities.
