Overview of the design
The box measures 80mm by 92mm and can fit in someone’s hand. When the input crank is turned on the back of the box, the top bar waves back and forth at the user. Decided to modify the design of the mechanism so that the input link can be rotated fully 360° for ease of use by the user and in case a motor should get attached to the mechanism later.
Measurements
Input: 30mm
Coupler/Slotted: 175mm
Grounded Middle: 90mm
Nuts and Bolts: M4 (various lengths)
Slot Length: 70mm
One of the first manufacturing considerations was the accuracy of the 3D Printers, the following is a sample piece printed with varying sizes of holes to determine what the appropriate hole size is for the final design. While this step would be crucial to include in future works, because of COVID there was no way to ensure anything 3D printed was printed on the same printer and the decisions made because of this step ultimately made very little difference because the printers are not consistent between each other.
Below is shown an early attempt at 3D printed lengths, these links don't fully match the design made in fusion, but were used to verify link and joint design. With these pieces it was determined that how the joints were designed should be able to move smoothly or be held in place where applicable.
