This is uncharted territory for most of us, but here are a few recommendations we have brainstormed so far:
- For written exams
- Implement an honor code. The university student honor code can be found here.
- Use a dedicated cover sheet that the students must sign verifying they have read and understand the honor code.
- Construct questions in such a way that having internet access will not give students an advantage.
- Accept photos/scans of exams. Recommend a dedicated scanner phone application.
- Use Canvas Quizzes to create exams
- Use a question bank to randomize questions/answers. A demonstration is available here.
- Set a time limit on the exam/quiz so that students must study even if the exam is open book/notes. You may need use the "Moderate Quiz" feature to add additional time for SSD students. A demonstration of the "Moderate Quiz" feature is here.
- Proctorio in Canvas
- Proctorio is an automated proctoring software that works within your web browser to monitor activity during exam/quizzes. It is integrated directly into Canvas' quizzes and offers a flexible service of ID verification, computer lock down, secure browser settings, admin and faculty controls, content protection, recording of video, audio, and screen activity, and analytics.
