Key features of the editor home page
- Role - shows what your permissions are in the editor
- Contributing editors can create questions within their own banks only - no editor access to the curated Quest banks
- "use TeX" checkbox specifies whether you intend to use TeX formatting in questions you write - be sure to check this if this is the case
- The dropdown box allows you to filter the questions you've edited by bank.
Clicking on new question will take you to the Create a Question page

- Each question must have a unique name, so we ask you to be as brief but descriptive as possible. You can always add numbers to the title to help with popular titles.
- Tags are optional on this page and can be added later once the question is completed.
- Questions created as a contributing editor are placed in your personal bank and will be included in the list on your home page.
Question Types
The Quest editor supports a number of question types that break down into two categories:
Basic Question Types
Provides an HTML text box to easily enter content and embed images. For more information about creating one of these types click here: Basic Question Types
Advanced Question Types
Expects TeX formatting in a generic text box and includes a code area to write programs to generate graphs and randomization within a question. For more information about creating one of these question types click here: Advanced Question Types

When creating a new question you need to give it a good name. Keep in mind the following things when choosing a name:
- Names have to be unique (you won't be able to create a question if the name already exists
- Try to use something that is descriptive of the question.
Next select a type for your question

| Multiple Choice | The simplest editor for creating multiple choice questions, answer choices are scrambled when assigned to students. Does not support randomization of parameters |
| Short Answer | Typed answers are counted correct if they contain keywords automatically graded |
| Essay | Answer can be typed directly or uploaded as a file. This is manually graded |
| HTML & JavaScript | Used for creating randomized parameters with numerical free response or multiple choice answer types (supports matrix answer types) better for math |
Most commonly used. Functions to create randomized parameters with numerical free response (template: 217915) or multiple choice answer types (template: 220433). Supports pstricks (dynamic visualizations) and is better for anything that requires pstricks or images. | |

After clicking on "create" the following will be a basic layout to what you'll see
At the top of the page is the name you designated when creating the question (for this example it is "New Question") along with the question ID (#219580) and the version number of the question (v.1).
The status of the question can be:

|---|---|
| Draft | A new version has been created, but a draft hasn't been saved yet. |
| Passed Audits & TeX | A draft has been saved and the preview generated for reviewing. |
| Parameters Generated | Random versions have been created and is available to be published. |
| Published | Published questions are "locked" from editing. Ready to be included in assignments |
The next row is a series of tabs that provide various functions.
