1.  Turn on the scanner using the Power button on the front of the machine above the Scan button.

2.  The Login screen appears.  Use the keyboard to type in the User Name and Password (press the tab key to move between fields).
     User Name:  guest
     Password:  guest
Press the Enter key (on the keyboard) or press the Login button on the touchscreen.

3.  Load the document to be scanned into the feeder face down and head first (the image orientation can be rotated later if necessary).  Do not load multiple documents at one time unless they should be included in a single file.  Press the Save button on the touchscreen.

4.  Use the default Save in location:  Fujitsu / ecs-meridian.austin.utexas.edu.

5.  The Save as field allows you to use the temporary file name provided or you can type in a new file name.  If you accept the temporary file name, you will be able to change it later from your workstation.  To provide a new file name now, tap the touchscreen in the Save as box and drag your finger across the temporary name to select it.  Press the Delete key and type a new file name.

Be careful if you intend to use special characters as some may have programmatic implications, for example, a slash (either the "/" or "\") key will insert a break and create a new folder for your document on the network.  If you want to direct your documents to a personal folder on the Fujitsu drive, include the name of the folder followed by a slash (either "/" or "\") in front of the file name. See (Archived) Fujitsu Scanner Folders.

6.  Respond No or Yes (default) to "Overwrite old files?".  The response highlighted in yellow is selected.

7.  You may adjust the resolution, brightness, contrast, color, page orientation, etc. by selecting Scan Settings button on the touchscreen and choosing the quality that you need to adjust.  For additional information see (Archived) Fujitsu Scanner Settings. Please note that adjusting some settings may increase the file size significantly.  While capturing a complete and quality image of the record is a priority, this may require some test scans using different settings to achieve the best possible image quality without increasing the file size drastically.  If you change the default settings, please restore the defaults once you are finished.

8.  The default for the Scan Viewer is On and turning it off isn't recommended.

9.  Press either the Scan button on the touchscreen or the Scan button on the front of the scanner (below the power button).

10.  The scanned image will appear on screen.  If you are happy with the image quality and want to keep it, press the Save button on the touchscreen.

11.  From the Main Menu screen you can scan another document or Logout if done.

12.  After Logout (must confirm, OK), select Shutdown (confirm, OK) and the scanner will turn itself off.

13.  When you return to your workstation, open My Network Places and navigate to Fujitsu on Meridian EDM (ecs-meridian.austin.utexas.edu).  You should see your document in the Fujitsu folder saved with either the temporary file name or the new file name you gave it in the Save as step above.

14.  Open the electronic document to confirm that the image quality is complete and acceptable.  This review and confirm step is crucial since the scanned image of the record will replace the hard copy of the record in our filing system.  If the image quality is poor or pages are missing, the integrity of the imaged record will be comprised and that could have legal implications.  If necessary, rescan the record to capture missing pages or to produce a higher quality image.
