All new EDP Students are encouraged to view and utilize the EDP New Student Checklist. EDP will not track your progress through the checklist - this is simply a helpful list for new students, to use if you wish.

International Students

International students : be sure to should visit UT's International Students Office new student webpage.

English Language Evaluation

All new international students with degrees from non-English-speaking universities are required to undergo a brief evaluation for speaking and writing English (English Second Language evaluation). The International Office will conduct the English language evaluation during New International Student Orientation. This evaluation is done at no cost to the student. If the student does not pass the evaluation, they will be required to take an English Language course during their first semester at UT.

UT International students are strongly encouraged to attend the University's International New Student Orientation in addition to the EDP Orientation.

Immigration  Immigration Briefing and Check-In (IBC)

UT International students are required by UT to attend an Immigration Briefing and Check-In (IBC) - see the IBC site for - check-in for more information and dates. At IBC, you will learn about immigration, work eligibility in the U.S., how to obtain U.S. forms of identification (i.e. driver's license and social security number), and health insurance requirements.

Advising & Registration

Course Advising and Registration for Fall takes place during the week of New Student Orientation. You will attend advising with your program adviser during Orientation so that you can register (registration cannot occur without an approved advising form). The Calendar on this page lists program-specific advising days/timesDuring EDP Orientation, you will meet with your program's Area Chair or Director to determine what classes to take in the Fall. During this advising session, you will submit your EDP Advising Form, which is required for you to enroll in classes.

**Summer-Start Students: Some EDP programs allow students to start early in the Summer ( vs. Fall), depending on circumstances. If If you wish to start courses in the Summer session, you must:

  1. Contact the EDP Graduate Coordinator by May 1st to inform that you wish to start in the Summer, as changes must be made to your admission in order to do so.
  2. Contact the Program Area Chair in your area of study as soon as possible to arrange a time to fill out an Advising Form so that you can register for Summer courses. Read through the Advising & Registration page in the Student Handbook for information about Advising registration and registration/ payment dates and /deadlines.

Fall-Start Students: Course advising and Registration registration for newly admitted new graduate students happens takes place during Orientation week in August. In early August, your Registration Information Sheet (RIS) will be available through the Office of the Registrar website. The RIS will show all your registration dates/ times as well as links to the Course Schedule, Registration, your Tuition and Fee Bill and Student Accounts Receivable. You will also be able to determine if you have any registration bars attached to your record.

EDP suggests you review the Course Waiver process for EDP and submit any waivers (particularly Foundation Course waivers) before Orientation if possible, as waivers may affect what courses you are advised into during Orientation. You will receive will take in your first semester. While you won't get an official Program of Work during until Orientation, but you can get a good sense of what courses will likely may be required taking by visiting the Program of Work page in the EDP Student Handbook.
