What is Jamf

Jamf is an enterprise management and inventory tool (commonly referred to as EPM (End Point Management) for Apple devices which . This allows IT staff to quickly deploy software required by campus (antivirus, backup, etc), allow ensure OS and application patches are being properly installed. Recent campus policy changes have mandated that all university computers have EPM tools installed.  Jamf also allows computer owners to easily install optional University software (Cyberduck, Box Drive, VLC Player, etc) , and let support staff without admin credentials, within the new UT Self Service application. Authorized IT staff can see inventory information and system status for providing end-user help and answering any University audits.compliance or audit requests.

Enrolling in Jamf

This process will install the client which will make sure that backup and proper UT security is setup on the machine as well as install the Self Service portal to give you access to software.

  • Click the enrollment link in the email you received, which will launch the enrollment process

  • Click "Continue" on the following pop-up to install the MDM (Mobile Device Management) Profile

  • Click Apple Menu > System Preferences > Profiles (Mac OS 12.x and earlier) OR Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy and Security > Profiles ( Mac OS 13 Ventura)

  • Double-click the MDM Profile and then click Install

NOTE: If you see a message about "Erase all data on this computer", this is only a permission. Nothing will be erased. The ability to erase all data is a requirement for security, in case a device is stolen.


  • Enter your admin account username and password and click OK

  • When the profile is done installing, as shown below, close System Preferences/System Settings.
