  • Mac or PC Computer
  • PrinterUSB cable (optional)
  • Printer's IP Address
  • Paper (for a print test)

Mac

To add a printer, use its IP address and these steps: 

  1. Go to  Apple Menu > System Preferences > Printers & Scanners

  1. Click the "+" Plus and complete the printer setup wizard:

  1. Choose the IP tab (Globe icon) and enter the printer's settings: 
  2. Address: the printer's IP address 
  3. Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD 
  4. Name: a descriptive name of your choice, I recommend including the printer's IP

Notes:

  • If you have the printer-specific driver installed: the correct driver typically auto-selects
    • If it doesn't, click the dropdown, choose Select Software, then pick the driver for the printer's model 
  • If you don't have the printer-specific driver installed: you can use the Generic PostScript Driver

If the driver is not automatically installed, it can be downloaded from the printer manufacturer’s website:

  1. Check your printer manufacturer’s support site. To find it, search the internet for the name of your printer manufacturer plus the word “support,” such as “HP support.” Listed below are the links to the most common printer brands. Search for your printer model number directly. Locate and download the latest driver for your printer model, then follow the installation instructions on the manufacturer’s website.

1. Go to Apple Menu (  ) > System Settings > Printers & Scanners

1. Download the driver 
2. Double click the downloaded file to unzip it 
3. Browse to a convenient file location such as the Desktop or Downloads and unzip the file 
 
Add a printer 
1. In the Start Menu, search for then select   Using the search bar in the bottom left corner of your screen, type "Printers & Scanners" .

3. Wait a few seconds then choose and then click "The printer that I want isn't listed" .

43. Choose Click "Add a printer by hostname or using a TCP/IP address or hostname" and then click "Next". Click Next. .

4. Under Device Type, choose "IPP Device".

5. Next to "For Hostname or IP address", enter the IP address: 172.17.100.17 . Click Next. 
6. On "Install the printer driver": 
a. Click Have Disk... 
b. Navigate to where you downloaded and unzipped the driver and open the disk1 folder 
c. click RICSETUP64. Click Open. Click OK. 
d. Click PS Driver for Universal Print. Click Next. 
7. If asked "Which version of the driver do you want to use?", Leave "Use the driver that is currently installed (Recommended)" selected. Click Next. 
8. Give the printer a descriptive name of your choice, I recommend including the printer's IP. Click Next. 
9. Choose "do not share this printer". Click Next. 
10. Click Print a Test Page or click Finish if you don't want to print a test page. type your IP address or network name.

7. Make sure "Query the printer and automatically select driver to use" is checked and click "Next".

8. Windows should automatically detect the correct driver. If not, use the instructions above for "Finding and Installing Drivers". Click "Next" after this step.

9. Fill in the box for "Printer name:" and click "Next".

10. Windows will prompt you to share the printer with others on your network if desired. Select your chosen option and click "Next".

11. Your printer should be added, and a test print may be sent if desired. Click "Finish" once this is done.
