  1. IGRINS Install procedure (performed by McDonald Staff)
While IGRINS is on the dome floor:
    1. Turn off the He compressor by flipping the yellow-then-white switches to the off position.
    2. Ensure that the detectors have been powered down via software. If the Dell computers are off (no green lights on the left side) then the detectors are off.
    3. Power off the electronics with the power switch at the back of the electronics rack.
    4. Disconnect the He lines from IGRINS and cover the ends of the lines with dust caps.
    5. Remove the power and ethernet connections from each JADE2 (detector) card while wearing a static wrist strap.
    6. Remove all electrical connections:
      1. ABC cables that go to the Lakeshore temperature controllers
      2. Pressure gauge cable
      3. Cold head power cable

    Mount IGRINS to the telescope:
    1. Roll the IGRINS cart under the telescope and raise it until the mount can be fastened to the telescope.
    2. Remove the cart at the IGRINS/cart interface, leaving the black mounting brackets attached to the cart.
    3. Attach the electronics cabinet to the instrument mount.
    4. Run the He lines around the telescope to provide tension-relief and then attach the He lines to IGRINS. Avoid tangled cables and bungie the cable baskets to the instrument mount.
    5. Run the cold head power cable around to IGRINS and attache.  Provide appropriate slack for rotating IGRINS 90 degrees from the fiducial point.
  2. Reattach all the cables between the electronics cabinet and IGRINS.
    1. ABC cables that go to the Lakeshore temperature controllers
    2. Pressure gauge
    3. JADE2 (detector) card power and ethernet connections while wearing a static wrist strap.
  3. Connect the fiberoptic cable from IGRINS to the patch box above the power outlets. IGRINS uses the two upper left ports in the patch box. If the lights on the network switch in the electronics rack don't illuminate, swap the cables in the back.

  4. Plug IGRINS power cable into the UPS outlet on the floor panel.

  5. Cleanup the cabling to avoid snagging while observing.

  6. To startup IGRINS - recommended that this be done by person starting observing run - IGRINS Team Members
    1. Flip the power switch on the back of the electronics rack.
    2. Remove the door of the electronics rack and press the red 'ON' button at the top of the rack.
    3. Use the power buttons marked ThAr, UNe, THL and 'Motor' to turn off the lights.
    4. Initialize the detector computers by pressing the power button.
    5. Check the Lakeshore units for the correct temperatures and heater ranges.
    6. Replace the door on the electronics rack and securly fasten.

  7. Computer Software Startup
    1. Turn on DSC and ICC Mac computers - if they are already on then restart them before the observing run starts to get the socket connections fixed.
    2. Log into ICC with “igrins” account
    3. Open a terminal window and type “cd ~/igrins_admin”
    4. You can now startup all the software. Multiple terminals may be needed. Start by running:
      1. “bash mntrun” (mounts remote directories)
      2. “python tmp350.py” (starts temperature controller monitoring)
      3. Shrink this window"sh run_hk2firebase.sh" (HKP website uploader)
    5. Start the Teledyne detector software
      1. Open three Remote Desktop Sessions to detector computers. Password is the same as all other IGRINS systems and no domain is required to login.
        1. SVC: 192.168.2.4
        2. H: 192.168.2.5
        3. K: 192.168.2.6
      2. Run the following on each of these three computers to get the detectors fully functional:
        1. Login with the “Administrator” account
        2. Click connect even though certificate says incorrect
        3. Upon login, an IDL Virtual Machine Window will open, ignore this for now
        4. Close the 'Initial Configuration Tasks" window
        5. Once Windows is running, double-click on the “HAL Server” icon on the Desktop
        6. When the new window (“HalServiceApp”) opens click the green “Start” button, then shrink this window
        7. Go back to the IDL Virtual Machine Window and click “Continue” (if this did not come up, double click on the “HXRG” icon on the desktop)
        8. Press the “INITIALIZE” button at the top left of the window
        9. In the pop-up window, check the “Download Jade2 Firmware (.bin file)” box. “Download Jade2 Register Database (.xml file)” should already be checked.
        10. Press “INITIALIZE”
        11. Wait about 20 seconds for Jade card to initialize
        12. Ensure that the “ASIC Main Power” box is checked (top left panel of HXRG Testing Software)
        13.  In the middle left panel (DETECTOR CONFIGURATION) set the “# of Detector Outputs” to 32.
        14. In the top left panel press the “SET CONFIG PARAMETERS” button.
        15.  In the middle center panel IDLE MODE select “Fowler Sampling”
        16.  In the top right panel press the “ACQUIRE” button and take a test image. If it looks normal, then close the test image and you are ready to take data.
      3.  Close the three Remote Desktop Connections and choose the 'Disconnect' option. This will not close the connections, just the remote desktop.

  8. IGRINS Control Software
    1. Close windows that are not needed by you. Please leave the terminal running hk_to_firebase.py running in the background.
    2. Ensure that TeamViewer RealVNC Server is running on the ICC - blue box with two arrows "R" box icon on the top taskbar.
    3. Start the TCS proxy by opening a terminal, and typing
      1. > cd ~/igrins_admin
      2. > sh run_tcsproxy.sh
    4. The TCS proxy is required for the IGRINS software to communicate coordinates and moves with the telescope.
    5. Changes to the instrument PA need to be input into the TCS proxy in order to propogate to the IGRINS software. The default PA is 90.
    6. Start the ICS Hub by opening a terminal and typing
      1. > cd ~/igrins_admin
      2. > sudo sh run_icshub.sh
The ICS Hub allows you to:
      1. Adjust the output directory of your data. This is useful if you restart the computer near the end of the night.
      2. Check the status of the hard drive mounts. They should be 'Okay'. Otherwise you need to type   (enter the IGRINS password)
    7. Mount the harddrives by opening another terminal and typing
      1. > cd ~/igrins_admin
      2. > bash sh mntrun
      3. and (enter the IGRINS password)
      4. Check the Proxy status. Should be 'Okay'.
      5. In IGRINS Hub click Check Mount, checks connection to DCCs, should say OKAY...
      6. Back to terminal...
      7. > sh run_file_transfer_daemon.sh &
    8. In the IGRINS Hub: Start the Housekeeping package, TCS proxy, Slit Camera Package, and Data Taking Package. On the HKP window, click the "Periodic Monitoring" button.
      1. Run HKP
      2. If it fails, control c in the terminal out of ICS hub and restart it
      3. Run TCS proxy
      4. Run SCP
      5. Run DTP
    9. Start the HK2Firebase which  acts as a server for the webpage showing the IGRINS HKP data (https://igrins-hk.firebaseapp.com/) by opening the terminal and typing...
      1. > cd ~/igrins_admin
      2. > sh run_hk2firebase.sh
  9. Startup Procedure is Complete.
