Paloma reached out to Christine at Harvard – Harvard does not have Primo VE so wikidata integrations will not be available for them. She will like to hear more about any testing we end up doing
June meeting has been rescheduled. Could we also reschedule August (paloma will be flying that day)? Yes, let's re-schedule for August 30th
Katie has added already a few Jackie Shieh presentations available to watch online to the wiki Resources page -
What presentations do we want to focus as well? ELUNA Linked data Community of practice (they have a YouTube channel)
We did not do any pre-game planning
ELUNA conference debrief
Melanie
ExLibris talked about plans to develop Alma/Primo integrating LD and AI
Melanie attended all LD related sessions, and was able to learn more about the plan for knowledge cards integration and resolve the concerns she had about the use of LCNAF Ids, vs. Wikidata IDs
pre-conference sessions – got a good understanding of what functionalities are currently available
Right now the plan it to generate triples in Alma and then move them out, because they are not really developing Primo for working directly with RDF data
Is there a plan to develop an RDF editor in Alma?
Right now the only plan is to integrate it with already existing RDF editors (e.g. Sinopia, MARVA)
Is there a plan to implement a SPARQL endpoint?
No really. There is no expectation of implementing Alma as a triplestore
Melanie would like more time to dive into all her notes, and will prepare to provide a demo of Linked Data functionality in Alma/Primo during the June meeting
Melanie will try to connect with Xiaoli, since she was not able to do it during the conference
TCDL conference debrief
Melanie, Paloma, others
Melanie – Connected with Elliot Williams. New position is metadata strategist in UTSA. HAs sign up again to the UTlist. Talked about ELUNA conference, since UTSA also uses Alma/Primo.
Katie – Connected with Diane Lopez from UTSA. Right now Diana has architecture in her purview. Discussed with Diane and Elliot potential wikidata collaboration
Paloma – also talked with Diane about wikidata and she was very interested in learning more
Melanie attended a BoaF about harmful language. If was facilitated by folks from UTL. Room was pack and there was a lot of engagement from multiple institutions. Connections between DEI and this group, and potential to collaborate
Paloma – Learnt about a new UT AI interest group – Potential overlap between UT LD and UT AI
Katie -The AI group started as a conversation between Aaron Choates, Katie and Michael around machine learning. Has sent a form to sign up for the UTlist for the group
Nancy - Recent presentation of From the Page on ChatGPT
Paloma – talked with Sarah Brunfield during TCDL about ChatGPT and how they are testing it at From the Page. Any crossover between From the Page and linked data that we want to tap on, the Brunfields would be great partners
Jackie Shieh is not going to be available until September
Move some dates around:
June 21 - ExLibris and LOD (Speaker: Melanie)
July 26 - PCC and LOD (Speaker: Paloma)
August 30 - Melanie is going to ask Xiaoli if she could join, with the alternative of July
September 27 – Identity Management and LOD (Speaker: Jackie Shieh – need to confirm)
Environmental scan kick-off
All
Need to scope down the environmental scan
Decision - Focus on two relevant community of practice (ExLibris and PCC, consider Identity Management as part of PCC)
Need to focus on soaking in the discussions vs. inviting additional speakers beyond the ones we have already decided
Would be good to survey other Libraries within the UT System regarding their current use or intention to use LOD features on their cataloging systems (or any other use) – Many of them use Alma/Primo and this survey could surface potential collaboration opportunities
