  1. Log in to the student computer in the office
  2. Sign in with your EID
  3. Make sure the scanner (located to the right) is:
    1. On (there is an on button if not)
    2. USB plugged in to the computer (gray cable)
  4. Open the program called "Image Capture." If you can't find it, press the magnifying glass in the very top right corner of your screen. (see red arrow)


    Type in "Image Capture" in the "Spotlight Search" box that comes up. Click the program called "Image Capture" that comes up.

    Alternatively, you can Go to Finder > Applications > Image Capture


  5. In the window that pops up, choose Expression 1640XL




  6. Press Show Details



  7. It will automatically do an overview scan.  You can play arund wuth the settings:
    1. Color or B& W
    2. Color: the more the merrier
    3. Resolution: the more the merrier, to a point (400 is good for most printmaking... if the thing you are scanning is super small, you can go higher)
    4. Auto selection: "Off" gives you the most control
    5. Scan to: A folder you will remember, or your USB drive.
      1. NOTE: Your files will automatically delete from the student computer. Save them to a USB, UT Box, Google Drive, etc.
    6. Name: Whatever you want to name it
    7. Format: JPEG or TIFF
    8. The rest you can keep on "none"


  8. On the screen, draw a box around what you want to scan



  9. Then press SCAN. It will save to your drive. You can swap it out for more photos/images/etc. and simply press scan again.

Save your files

Your files will automatically delete from the student computer. Save them to a USB, your personal UT Box, Google Drive, etc. before you log out.
