To create an advanced question type click the Advanced tab on the Create a Question page.

The advanced question types all use TeX formatting instead of an HTML editor:

Multiple Choice (static choices)

This type is similar to the basic multiple choice question, but does not allow the answer choices to be randomized.

TeX Multiple Choice

A slightly more complex formatting choice for a multiple choice question. The choices are shuffled each time a new copy of the question is published.

Requirements - at least two answer choices and an explanation of the solution

Automatically graded - yes

Multi-part - yes

Eligible for homework or test - yes, to both

Randomization level - low/medium

TeX Open

Allows for the inclusion of a script in either Javascript or C to accompany the question and provide additional randomization. Can be used to create the following additional types:

Multiple Choice

A complex formatting choice for a high level of randomization in a question.

Requirements - at least two answer choices and an explanation of the solution

Automatically graded - yes

Multi-part - yes

Eligible for homework or test - yes, to both

Randomization level - low-high (based on how it is utilized)

Numerical TeX

A numerical free response question that grades with a default of 1% deviation from the provided answer.

Requirements - coded portion for the calculation

Automatically graded - yes

Multi-part - yes

Eligible for homework or test - homework only

Randomization level - low-high

Algebraic Free Response

Algebraic free response expects an algebraic equation as an answer. X+1 is the same thing as 1+X, but π is not the same as 3.14 (values must be exact).

Requirements - global free answer type and quotes around solution equation.

Automatically graded - yes

Multi-part - yes

Eligible for homework or test - homework only

Randomization level - low-high

Due to the nature of their machinery, CS Proof type questions are only available to UT instructors with developer access.
