Engineering computers have security policies in place that restrict executables and scripts from running except when executed from a predefined white-listed folder.  (Here is a list of white-listed folders).

When installing software on your Engineering computer, please follow one of these two methods.

Method #1

  • Copy application installation file to C:\software.
  • Right-click the executable and choose "Run as Administrator".
  • Enter your administrator account and password when prompted.
  • If given the option, ALWAYS install for the ALL USERS or for the ENTIRE computer.
    • Applications must be installed in one of the whitelisted folders or have an exception
  • NOTE:  There are instances in which an application will unzip files and try to run additional executables/scripts during the installation process, so it is important to, "Run as Administrator"

Method #2

  • Copy the excutable/script to a white-listed folder (Here is a list of white-listed folders).
    • Applications must be installed in one of the whitelisted folders or have an exception
  • Double-click the executable.
  • Enter your administrator account and password when prompted.
  • If given the option, ALWAYS install for the ALL USERS or for the ENTIRE computer.

NOTE:  It is against UT policy, best practices and is dangerous to use your administrative account for every day use, like reading email and browsing the web.
