These instructions pertain to updated wired connection which require a login (like Utexas wifi) in the following locations:

  • AHG
  • EER north
  • EER south ESS suite

  For any other wired connection, please contact your local IT support.

Physically connecting

  1. If this is a new connection, first contact your local IT to make sure the wall port is wired and activated.  Make sure to give them:
    1. The UT tag# of the device being connected 
    2. The label of the wall port being used
    3. Room # of the port
  2. Connect the computer to the wall port with a cat 5e or cat 6 ethernet cable

Logging into the network

WINDOWS

Some windows computers will automatically log into the wired network using your EID.  If your computer does not connect automatically, follow the directions below for "OTHER"

APPLE/MacOS

  1. Follow directions at https://ut.service-now.com/sp?id=kb_article&number=KB0016268 to log into the wired connection

OTHER

  1. Find the "mac address" of the connected device (https://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer)
  2. Follow the directions at https://ut.service-now.com/sp?id=kb_article&number=KB0016267 to register the device for connecting
    1. When entering a description for the device, please use "dept-UTtag#" (e.g. me-123456 for Mechanical Engineering or engr-654321 for Dean's office staff)


NOTES

If you move this device to another location, you may need to repeat the process
