Metadata Reuse Diagrams
These diagrams are designed to assist UTL staff looking to find and reuse descriptive metadata for various projects. The diagrams illustrate both current and proposed locations of source metadata records for a wide range of resources, including special collections, licensed materials, and both print and digital materials. Special collections here are defined as items that are singular in nature.
The Current Practice diagram describes active locations of source metadata records for assets, while the Proposed Practice diagram illustrates desired best practices for source metadata records (as recommended by the Metadata Steering Committee.) If you are looking to find source metadata for an asset, please use the Current Practice diagram.
Where there may be more than one possible location, the most likely location is listed first, and in descending order from there. Note that not all UTL digital repositories appear on the diagrams (e.g. AHPN, AILLA, LADI), because the descriptive metadata in those sites is not expected to be reused widely. Both diagrams were created in 2024 and represent that timespan of practice.
