Possible agenda items
- Regular meeting for the next 5-8 weeks:
- Is this a good time or should we publish a second poll?
- Can everyone commit to once a week with a few action items in between? (Checking out the slides posted, creating DC metadata CSV files, uploading test content to the shared directory, etc.)
- What questions do people have about the tool starting out? What exposure have they had? What have they heard?
- We could watch the intro video together to get everybody on the same page.
- Determine where (to what) we are going to push our archival and dissemination information packages (AIPs & DIPs) to: Islandora? Playing in their sandbox, for the DIP (which is the public access copy) they have pipes set up to ContentDM and Archivists Toolkit. We could set it up so that the AIPs go to Fedora and the DIPs go to Islandora or ContentDM?
- When you begin a "Transfer" in the system (the first stage of the workflow), you are browsing a directory whose file path has been specified somewhere in the setup. We'll want to create a directory structure of test data. In our case Test_data/repository_name/your_test_data. Perhaps all AWG members could have access to that directory in order to upload whatever data they want to test? Mabye that makes it too complicated. We could probably just throw a few different formats in one directory.
- Thoughts on an evaluation rubric:
- What do people hope the tool can do versus what it can do?
- How well does it integrate or can they imagine integrating it into their current workflow?
- Is it easy to learn and train other to use?
- Does the library TIS staff have a template for an evaluation tool?

Archivematica Sandbox Walkthrough | Lisa walked us through several of the Archivematica tabs (Transfer, Administration, etc.) |
What about quality control (Ex. Open Refine) |
|
How much work should be done before transferring items to Archivematica? | It depends on what kind of data you are dealing with (Ex. Digitization projects - zipped nested directory structure with archs, pubs, and thumbs; disk images from floppies in a hybrid collection) |
How hard is it to keep Archivematica updated? Do you need to reinstall for every release? | It depends on the features that you need for your particular workflow. If you only need features in an earlier version, you can sustain that. Keeping in mind, there may be future releases that incorporate BitCurator scripts. They are both rolled into Ubuntu. |
Action Items
- check out the slides from Kathy
- review the user manual for 1.0 release
- Jessica identify the most pertinent slides (SLIDES 48-69)
- Ladd will set up accounts for everyone and configure the transfer location so that we can upload items from our local machine
- We will all do a transfer test and come up with questions for our next meeting
- Melanie will email ContentDM about a test space for using Archivematica
- Jessica can research struct-map in regards to disk images
- Also take a look at research data module for Archivematica that was developed for University of Alberta
