C.5 Tenured Associate Professors Invoking the Right to Review

Except when subject to restrictions imposed as discipline for misconduct, a faculty member in the rank of tenured associate professor may invoke their right to be considered for promotion to tenured full professor during the tenth or later effective year in rank. To invoke this right of consideration, the tenured associate professor must advise the department chair (or dean in non-departmentalized schools/colleges) in writing by February 1 of the academic year preceding the review year. In exceptional circumstances, the candidate may request an extension to this deadline from the Faculty Affairs team in the Provost’s Office.

In the case of a denied promotion, the candidate may invoke the right of consideration again after five or more effective years in rank. However, the candidate may be considered earlier if the BC/EC votes to support and the department chair/dean approves moving the candidate’s case forward for promotion review.
