"Wild Wild West" - Justin Kilmarx
"Wild Wild West" Karakuri model analysis by Justin Kilmarx.
"Karakuri" comes from the Japanese word for "mechanism." These paper models feature simple mechanisms such as gears, cranks, and cams to create interesting and amusing output motions. For this project, I used the book Karakuri by Keisuka Saka to construct a Karakuri model of a train moving along a circular track around stationary scenery. This model takes input rotation from the user from a crank attached to the outside of the base. Two gears inside the base change the orientation and speed of the rotation to move the train along the circular path above.
