Flag Course Scheduling Deadline
This is a friendly reminder to review your flagged courses by the October 10 deadline. Once the schedule is published on October 12, the Registrar’s office will not allow you to add or delete flags on existing sections. Please send any discrepancies (missing or incorrect flags) to Tressa Olsen ugs-flags@austin.utexas.edu by noon on October 10.
Proposal Deadlines and Procedures:
For the 2016-17 academic year, our deadlines for submitting flag proposals are as follows:
December 15, 2016: Proposal deadline for courses to be flagged beginning in Summer 2017, and first proposal deadline for Fall 2017. All Summer 2017 proposals must be submitted by this date, and most Fall 2017 proposals should also be submitted. Getting Fall proposals in by this first deadline will allow enough time for clarification or adjustments to proposals, if needed, to get approvals made in time for the Fall 2017 course schedule.
February 16, 2017: Final proposal deadline for courses to be flagged beginning Fall 2017. This deadline will give you the chance to submit proposals in cases where sections or faculty are added late in the scheduling process, or where faculty may have missed the first deadline. Note that because this deadline falls so late in the Fall 2017 scheduling process, there may not be enough time to get approvals made for the Fall course schedule in cases where the flag committees have questions about a proposal.
April 11, 2017: First proposal deadline for courses to be flagged beginning in Spring 2018.
August 16, 2017: Final proposal deadline for courses to be flagged beginning in Spring 2018.
Flag proposals may be submitted online through our flag proposal system: https://ugs.utexas.edu/flag-proposal/. For all of the flags, the criteria and interpretations from the flag committees are on our web site: https://ugs.utexas.edu/flags/faculty-resources/criteria. Proposals may be submitted at the course-level (all sections of a given course number or numbered topic will be flagged), or at the instructor-level (only sections of a course number or numbered topic tied to a specific instructor’s EID will be flagged). Feel free to contact us if you have questions. In most cases, proposals should be submitted only through the home department.
Expiring Instructor-Level Flags:
As you know, instructor-level proposals are approved for three-year periods, after which the proposals must be renewed. Instructor-level flag proposals approved beginning in Spring 2014 or Summer 2014 will expire at the end of the Spring 2017 or Summer 2017 semesters, respectively. In order to avoid a lapse in the flag approval, renewal proposals for either semester should be submitted by our December 15, 2016 deadline. Instructors with soon-to-expire proposals have received individual emails from us with instructions for renewing their proposals. Note that this means that no action is required in order for these instructors to have the flag applied for Spring 2017—only for later semesters.
