If you are called by Facilities, please notify the freezer’s main user immediately. That person should get to lab immediately and rescue samples as described below. If the main freezer user is unreachable, whomever was called by Facilities should rescue samples. It is often helpful to have two people when dealing with a failed -80, so please call others for help if needed.

Move as many racks as possible to back up -80C freezer (Symphony freezer in MBB 1.122) or to one of the other -80 freezers, if necessary. Leave a note on the freezer with your name, contact information and time material was moved. Move everything that does not fit in back up -80C freezer, to back up -20C freezer in 1.124 (Freezer 1) and to -20C freezer in 1.150. Send an e-mail notifying all lab members of the situation.

Rescue priority:Samples are salvaged based on priority, so please color code the freezer maps accordingly.

-all human material (absolute priority!!!), all boxes marked in red.

- all current projects material, blue

- human blood samples, green

- old projects, yellow

- practice etc material, grey (does not need to be rescued, only, if there is space)
