Working Remotely Resources
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
In order to connect to *DEFINE (Mainframe) or other secured UT resources, you will need to be connected to the university’s VPN. This will require a two-factor authentication.
- Set up Duo, Two-Factor Authentication – please follow this guide (and PDF attached).
- Set up the VPN – please follow this guide (and PDF attached).
Mainframe/Define
- Download and install TN3270
- Mac – Software installation software can be found at this box link: https://utexas.app.box.com/v/mac-zoc-public/folder/96337354464 under “Zoc7-UT Mainframe Configuration.” You will need to log in to view box files.
- Windows – Software installation software can be found at this box link: https://utexas.app.box.com/v/mac-zoc-public/folder/96333792725 under “QWS3270Setup.msi.” You will need to log in to view box files.
- Connecting to Mainframe
- Establish VPN connection. Open applications folder and select tn3270 folder.
- Select “Connect to Mainframe.”
- Enter login information, UT IED and password, as usual.

Microsoft Office Suite
Current students and employees can download and install the Microsoft Office Suite at the Office 365 Portal by clicking on "Office 365 Portal" and logging in with your UT EID. The Office Suite contains Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Publisher (Windows desktop client only), and Access (Windows desktop client only).
