HARRIS LAB ONLY BACK UP FREEZER

The common-use MBS Backup -80 is a Panasonic,

located in MBB equipment room 2.132.

Please do not store any valuable, long term storage materials in this freezer.

In case of any other -80 freezer failures, EVERYTHING from this freezer will be taken out to make space for transfer material from the failed freezer. Freezer failure is an emergency situation and we will NOT have time to look for owners of the stuff in this back-up freezer.

Please take care of your valuable samples. If you are willing to take a risk, you can store your samples in the back up freezer. No complaints accepted in case of emergency.

Non Harris labs may be allowed to use our freezer if, and only if

1. The common-use back up freezer (Panasonic -80. It is located in Equipment Room 2.132) is not available.
2. You have been granted permission from our lab.
3. You place a note with detailed information (Lab, name, contact numbers, expected time of material transfer back to your freezer) on the freezer.
4. Materials are racked and organized, so transfer can be done quickly and efficiently, without abusing the freezer compressor.
5. After materials have been transferred, the freezer must remain closed until the temperature equilibrates to normal freezer temperature (-76C). DO not open it until it is stable!!!
6. You MUST call the UT alarm system 512-471-3935 and let them know that YOU will be the contact person this freezer for the next 48h. In the event we are called regarding an issue with this freezer, we will NOT make middle-of-the-night trips to UT to check on the freezer. This becomes your responsibility.
