Class Recordings
It is the policy of the University that instructors have discretion to allow or disallow electronic recording of their classes by students (“class recordings”). An instructor may prohibit or permit class recordings at their discretion as long as the decision is not made for reasons of discrimination or retaliation. If students are permitted to make class recordings, it should be made clear that (1) the class recordings may be used solely for the student’s personal educational use, (2) the class recordings are not be distributed to other persons, and (3) a student who violates those limitations may be subject to discipline under Chapter 11 of the Institutional Rules.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, an instructor must allow a student to electronically record their class if the student has received an accommodation through Services for Students with Disabilities that permits them to electronically record class.
