The success of our efforts to achieve our mission are measured through four main metrics: the number of Student Participants, number of Instructional Hours, number of hours spent training student educators, and the number of student educators employed. Combining these hours helps to track the progress of our programs and help direct the adoption of new initiatives.
Process
Data is collected throughout the semester for each individual program. UT Appointments for LS Appointments should be pulled every month and SEATS for Outreach, Workshops and Math Reviews should be pulled every two weeks.
Student Participants
The Student Participants metric involves a simple headcount of every student who has attended an educational opportunity with Sanger for any length of time. Information used to calculate this value is drawn from the attendance taken during each instructional section as well as the check-in information from the MyUGS system. In the 2013-2014 school year, Sanger saw over 31,000 students make use of their services.

Educational value for every hour spent at an event is calculated differently for each branch of the Sanger family. The table below details how the raw data is recorded and how the reported number of hours is calculated for each program.
Program |
How Sessions and Events data is recorded in semester | Calculation | |
Appointment Tutoring | MyUGS | 1 appointment = 1 hour |
Drop-in Tutoring | MyUGS | Avg. time for 1 student * # of students |
DSP Appointments | DSAT | 1 appointment = 1 hour |
LS Appointments | UTAppointments | 1 appointment = 1 hour |
Peer Academic Coaching | MyUGS | 1 appointment = 1 hour |
Workshops | SEATS | 1 hour * # of participants |
Outreach | SEATS | 1 hour * # of participants |
Signature Courses | by-hand | # of 1 hour meetings * # of attendees + orientation training * # of attendees |
Supplemental Instruction | SEATS | # of SI sections * # of attendees |
Peer-led Undergraduate Studying | by-hand | # of PLUS study sessions * # of attendees |
Math Classes | SEATS | 1 hour * # of participants |
Public Speaking Center | UTAppointments | 1 hour * # of participants |
Training Hours
Keeping the two-fold mission statement in mind, it is also important to track the amount of time spent training our educators to hone their teaching skills. Calculating the number of instructional hours is simpler than educational hours. These are usually tracked as the amount of time tutors spend in training hours and should be on the order of ~10h for most groups.
