NOTE:  If you are off-campus attempting to connect to the network share, you’ll need to make a successful connection to the UT VPN first by visiting http://vpn.utexas.edu first. Once connected, proceed with the instructions below.

How To: 
Map a network drive (Win) to the course shares:

  1. Right-click on the “Computer” icon, or the “This PC” icon.
  2. Select “Map Network Drive”
  3. In the Drive list, click a drive letter.
    1. You can choose any available letter.
  4. In the Folder box, enter the path below \\arch-data.austin.utexas.edu\<entercoursesharehere>

  5. To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the “Reconnect at logon” checkbox.
  6. Check “Connect using different credentials”.
    1. Enter “Austin\<enter your EID here>” in the first line of the Windows Security box that pops up.
    2. Enter your EID password in the second line of the Windows Security box.
    3. Select “Ok”

  7. Select Finish
  8. Your computer is now connected or mapped, to the network drive.

  1. From the Finder menu, click Go.
  2. Click Connect to Server from Go’s drop down menu.
  3. Alternatively, you can also press Command+K to launch Connect to Server.

Connect to a SMB Share

  1. In the Server Address field, enter smb:// to define the network protocol for SMB, and then enter either the IP address or the hostname of the server.

  2. To add the server to your Favorite Servers list, click the ‘+’ button.

  2. When prompted, enter austin\EID user name and password to connect to server.

  4. Violà! Once the connection is made, the share you have access to will appear on your desktop.
