PhD Program of Work

The Graduate Advisor may approve a waiver of up to 6 credit hours (two courses) of graduate level coursework from another institution. To obtain approval to use transfer coursework towards your BME Graduate Program:

  • Obtain a syllabus for each course you want to count towards your program
  • Email the Graduate Advisor with the syllabi and which program requirements you would like for them to count towards
  • Please note: credits approved for transfer will not be documented on the UT transcript

Transfer on the BME PhD program of work for students who matriculate with a master's degree. Coursework is not officially transferred and will not show up on your UT Austin transcript.

To request a PhD program of work waiver, send your master's transcripts and your specific request to the Graduate Advisor at edward.castillo@utexas.edu. 

  • Identify the BME PhD coursework requirement(s) you want reduced and the course(s) you took previously that meet that requirement.
  • You may be asked to provide a syllabus for each course.
  • Course waiver approvals are kept by the Graduate

Master's Program of Work

Master's degree seeking students may officially transfer coursework taken at other institutions if the courses were not used toward another degree.
