Additional Responsibilities of the Admissions Chair | - Coordinate and facilitate all meetings of the Admissions Committee
- Coordinate with the Graduate Coordinator on the admissions process
- The Graduate Coordinator will
- Create the GIAC spreadsheet for all applicants, including targeted faculty mentors, and provide it to the Admission Chair for distribution
- Provide the Admissions Chair information regarding any prospective students targeted for recruitment weekend who trigger an admissions review
- Draft all admissions letters with input from the Admissions Chair
- Assist in identifying prospective students who qualify for university fellowships and assist in the fellowship application process as needed
- Accept or decline all applicants through the EASI system based on information from the Admissions Chair
- Coordinate admissions review assignments for:
- Prospective students who identify no faculty mentors or a single mentor
- Prospective students targeted for recruitment weekend who trigger an admissions review
- Coordinate and facilitate two meetings with the HDFS faculty
- Meeting 1: Initial admissions meeting to identify prospective students targeted for recruitment weekend
- Meeting 2: Final admissions meeting to determine final admissions decisions
- Coordinate with the Department Chair and Graduate Advisor on admissions-related issues (e.g., identifying faculty who will be accepting students in a given year, identifying current graduate students and their mentors to determine lab size)
- Share all necessary information from the Admissions Committee with the larger HDFS faculty
- Coordinate with the Recruitment Committee regarding a) recruitment weekend invitees and b) timeline for providing faculty and student evaluations of prospective students
- Send official admissions letters to all targeted applicants
