This workflow will walk through preparing your video for upload to Vimeo.
We will create a Thumnail in step 1.
In step 2, compress your video.
In step 3, upload it to Vimeo.
Optional: step 4, include the Vimeo video in a blog.
1) Create a thumbnail.
You are now done with Final Cut Pro. Quit FCP by selecting 'Final Cut Pro > Quit Final Cut Pro.'
2) Compress your video.

Right click your video file and select 'Open with > Compressor' |
|
Find the Vimeo Compression droplet located on the desktop or in 'Macintosh HD > Users > Shared' |
|
Drag the Vimeo Compression icon into Compressor and drop it on the clip that you just opened in the upper-left corner of the screen. 'Vimeo Settings' will appear next to your clip like so: |

To trim your clip, double click the screen icon under the name of your clip. It will open in the 'Preview' window on the right. |
|
With the Preview window selected, press the space bar to play your movie, or move the playhead on the timeline below the clip to find an appropriate beginning point for your clip. |
|
Find the point that you would like your program to end and mark it with an out point by pressing the 'O' button on your keyboard or the |
|
Back in the upper-left window, rename the file to something standard that makes sense such as '[Name of your program] [Date]'. |

Select 'Submit ...' |
|
You will be prompted for a name for the process you are running. This is irrelevant. Press the new 'Submit' button. |
|
The progress of your conversion can be viewed in the 'History' window on the bottom right. |
|
Wait until your video is compressed. This will take a long time. A typical 30 minute video will take 2 hours to compress. |
|
3) Your video is done compressing. The next step is uploading it to Vimeo.
Open a web browser such as Firefox or Safari. |
|
Type in the address 'vimeo.com' |
|
Select 'Login' Type in the account name & password. |
|
Select 'Upload a Video' |
|
Select 'Choose file to Upload.' |
|
Navigate to the output from Compressor in the previous step, and select 'Open'. |
|
Vimeo will display the progress of the video upload. |
|
While the video is uploading, fill out the Title, Description, and Tags information. |
|
Once your video is uploaded, select 'Add to'. |
|
If your Vimeo account has channels, this is the time to add your recently uploaded video to a channel. Press the check box next to the appropriate channel. |
|
To change the look and feel of your video, select the 'Embedding' settings. |
|
Use this interface to assign the settings you would like to your video. Once you have settings that you like, select 'Create a new Preset ...' |
|
Select 'Go to Video' to review your video. Make sure Vimeo is done processing your video before proceeding. |

Select the 'Settings' icon in the upper right. |
|
Select Thumbnail |
|
Select the still image you saved earlier in Final Cut Pro to be your thumbnail. And click 'Open'. |

Optional: 4) Include the Vimeo video in a blog.
This walkthrough will use the TexasNewswatch blog using a Wordpress interface as the example, however this workflow applies to posting any Vimeo-hosted video to a blog.
Navigate to the Video you would like to link to within your Vimeo account. |

In the navigation bar at the top of the browser window, you will find the web address for your video. Highlight and copy the numbers. You can easily copy these numbers by selecting 'Edit > Copy' or (Command on a Mac)(Control on a PC) C. |

Open a new Window in your browser by selecting 'File > New Window' (Command N) and navigate to your blog. |
|
Select 'Log in' |
|
Enter your login and password. In this case it is your UT EID and password. |
|
On the left side Navigation column, under 'Posts', select 'Add New'. |
|
Title the post. |
|
Under 'Add Media,' type [vimeo COPY THE NUMBER HERE] |
|
Under 'Post Tags' on the right, enter words that would be relevant if someone were to search for your blog post. |
|
At the bottom of the page, take special note of the 'Discussion' tab and whether or not you should 'Allow comments on this post. Typically leaving comments disabled is a good idea. |

When you are done, click the 'Publish' button on the right. |
|
Select the 'View Post' link to view your post. |
|
Preview your post to make sure it is correct. |
