Configure X11 Forwarding in PuTTY

Download and run the PuTTY installer (putty-0.63-installer.exe) from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

To start PuTTY, select the application from either the desktop or Start Menu (prior to Windows 8)

In the Category menu, select the SSH category under Connection, and check Enable compression

Under the Auth category, select X11 and check Enable X11 forwarding

Go back to the Session category, enter the hostname of a Linux machine you want to connect to, and press Open

You also have the option to Save your configuration to minimize steps the next time PuTTY is used

Note:  Keep in mind there are other Linux servers available at http://www.ece.utexas.edu/it/remote-linux
