Program Coordinator: Erin Cotter, Ph.D

Sean Tucker- Outreach Coordinator

Outreach and Workshops during the long semesters include Learning Center professional and student staff-led free, non-credit workshops covering a wide variety of topics. Any currently enrolled UT student may RSVP here. UT student organizations, FIGS, faculty, or staff may request an academic skills workshop. Outreach presentations take place in a venue chosen by the requestor. Workshops are open to any student and are located sometimes at Sanger and sometimes across campus. Services are provided by a team of 10 Outreach and Communication Specialists (OCS) who learn scripted workshops and deliver them at dates/times scheduled by Sanger staff or by request. Requests peak in early Fall.

The Public Speaking Center (PSC) is located in JES A323, JES A324, and JES A325. The Sanger Learning Center and the School of Undergraduate Studies have partnered with the UT Libraries to provide this free service for all UT students. The PSC provides two types of consultations. First, students can receive guidance as they prepare their presentation from a specially trained student Senior Outreach and Communication Specialist (SOCS). Or, students can rehearse their speech or presentation and receive feedback about their message and nonverbal delivery. Experienced Outreach and Communication Specialists may be hired to work in the Public Speaking Center, using their extensive public speaking experience to enhance their credibility and inform their consultations. Students can learn more details and make an appointment here.

Sanger Learning Center professional staff also contributes to new student and transfer Orientation through the required Smart is What You Do session. In addition to introducing new students to the Sanger Learning Center, the program is designed to give students hands-on practice in making the academic transition from high school to college. Using Dr. David Yaeger’s research and UT student testimonials, orientation attendees are exposed to a formula for success: strategy + effort + help from others.

In addition to Orientation, Sanger Learning Center also takes part in multiple all-campus events throughout the year including Family Weekend, ExploreUT, RISE, LEAD Texas, and more.
