Joyce grew up in Urbana, Illinois and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois.  She taught public school in a Chicago suburb until moving to Texas in the early 1970’s.  She taught in a private school in Houston and received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood from the University of Houston.  After her years overseeing preschools for several years run out of Houston-area churches, she started her own school in Richmond in 1987 and has been the owner and director of Shady Oak Christian School for 30 years.  Joyce has presented on a variety of topics at early childhood conferences around the state and the U.S.

In her 40+ years of working with children, Joyce has developed and nurtured a passion for parent education and for assisting parents to “swim upstream” in today’s culture. Recently, she started the “Heirloom Parenting” initiative to present research-based parenting guidance to families in the Fort Bend County area.
