  • What we do/say to them and about ourselves, they are absorbing it like a sponge.
  • The work starts with ourselves!
  • For college students when they do an assessment for eating disorders, there are commonly references to what mom said/did or what dad said.
  • Split into small groups
    • Social Media/Advertising/Magazines
      • Lack of variety of body shapes in kids books
      • Only showing it as good and bad (dichotomy)
      • Social media: you can follow things that are positive and rewarding (as opposed to negative): you can choose what message you follow! 
      • So many more people using media to communicate about true/accurate and positive body image.
    • Clothing, Food, 
      • Mannequins
      • Mens vs womens fits 
      • Clothing for changing body styles 
      • Fitness/health/strength versus 
    • Relationships
      • Cannot control messages from daycare/schools
      • Movement: does family get out and move?
      • After having a child, what is your new healthy
      • Kids recognize what families and friends are saying/doing
      • Cooking healthy at home
      • Eating together and all eating a health balanced meals
    • Community (school, Austin, Texas and national)
      • Austin: healthy habits and lifestyles (HEB Buddy, trails, greenbelts)
      • Austin: more judgmental about shaming body types
      • School: teacher self/body image
      • Texas: Everything is bigger in Texas 
      • Nationally: fast food, commercials, happy meals (with prize for kids) 
  • Mommy-wine industry:  a bit much
  • Need versus wants: 
  • Pregnancy is like an assault on your body!
  • Athleisure: dressing athletically to run errands
