Professional theatres and film productions may rent costumes from UT’s Theatre and Dance Dept. as long as there a is a qualified costumer overseeing fittings, alterations and laundering. UT does not rent out costumes for events or Halloween.  

Appointments: 

  • Make an appointment at least 24 hours in advanced by emailing us at utcostumerental@gmail.com 
  • Include your: Your name, Business and what you are looking to rent.  
  • Appointments are 1hr long (negotiable up to 3hrs depending on amount being pulled and travel) please plan accordingly 
  • Please provide info as to who is coming to borrow so we know who to expect. 
  • Our Stock is limited and our season production takes priority so there may be things usually available for renting that are withheld. Information will be needed to determine you can rent anything. When requesting an appointment please provide information such as 
    • The nature of what you’re looking for. Period, modern, menswear, womenswear, hats, dresses, suits, ect. ? 
    • For film: Is your production filming outside or inside. Outside shoots will not be granted access to some items without a designated skilled costumer on crew 
    • Filming dates or Production dates (include Tech) 

What To Bring

  • Check book or Credit Card 
  • Valid ID 
  • Any documents proving you are Tax Exempt and/or non-profit 

What Can't Be Rented

Costume Stock Management reserves the right to refuse any item for loan or rental for any reason. 

  • Shoes 
  • Jewelry and glasses 
  • Fur 
  • Green Tag Items 
  • Hosiery 
  • Suspenders, ties, belts 
  • Hats (Needs Stock Supervisor Approval) 

Payment 

  • WE ONLY TAKE CHECKS, CREDIT CARDS AND MONEY ORDERS!  
  • Payment is due when the return is made 
  • Make checks and Money orders payable to The University of Texas Austin Theatre and Dance Dept. 
  • Bring or send your assistant with a tax-exempt form if there is one available. 

Returning Items 

  • A return date will be negotiated at the time of the rental. 
  • If the renter cannot return costumes at the agreed date the renter MUST contact the Stock supervisor or pay the late fee. 
  • Items borrowed must be returned with all alterations, safety pins and show labels removed.  
  • Items used for projects MUST BE CLEANED. For items dry cleaned the renter MUST PROVIDE RECIPTS.
