Overview

In an effort to improve the consistency, efficiency, and security of endpoint management on the UT campus, the IT Leadership Council Endpoint Management (EPM) Standing Committee, in partnership with the Information Security Office, is leading a campus-wide initiative to develop and implement endpoint management practices and centrally managed endpoint management tools for UT desktops, laptops, and tablets.

***********************************************    BEFORE MIGRATING    ***********************************************

Please be aware that you will need to restart your computer at the end of the process, so please save anything you are working on.

You will also need to turn off any Focus settings you have enabled during the migration for enrollment to complete.

Instructions for Migrating macOS Computers:


  • Launch the CNS App Store (found in the /Applications/ folder)

  • Under the Featured section of the Home tab, there will be a policy titled 'Migrate to Central Management'

  • Click the 'Migrate' button

*** MAKE SURE TO TURN OFF ANY DO NOT DISTURB FOCUS BEFORE RUNNING ***

  • You may be prompted for your password a couple times to modify a System Extension for Secure Endpoint Service (we will be moving to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Security moving forward), enter your login password and click 'OK'

  • You will then receive a message stating that "Your computer is being migrated to the central campus JAMF...", click 'Continue'

  • Click the 'Device Enrollment' notification when it shows in the top right of your screen

  • You will be prompted to "Allow Device Enrollment?", click 'Allow'

  • Enter your login password when prompted in the "Profiles" window and click 'Enroll'

  • If you get any alerts of a "System Extension Blocked", click 'OK'

  • A new Self Service application rebranded 'UT Self Service' will open. Under the Featured section of the Home tab there will be a policy titled 'Initial Migration Inventory Update', click 'Update'

  • You will be prompted tp enter your login password to generate a new FileVault key. Enter your login password and click 'Ok'

  • When you receive the message that "Your FileVault Key was successfully Changed" click 'Close'

  • At the end of the process you will receive a final message stating "This the computer will restart in 5 minutes...", click 'OK'

    *** Please note that the 5 minute countdown does NOT start until you click 'OK'. Make sure you save anything you are working on in this 5 minutes. If you would like to speed up the process, restart the computer from Apple menu as soon as you are ready. ***

  • Your computer should now be enrolled in the central management tool. No further action is required.
