5. Discussion: "Impatience"

After putting together the model and testing it, it was clear that the display stand was too small for four cam-followers. The first draft of the model had a 1mm x 1mm square paper as the connection between the cam and follower, much smaller than that in the original "Cam A" template in Keisuke Saka's book. If the four squares were too large, they would obstruct the movement of the cam-followers. The 1mm x 1mm squares for the first draft of the model proved to be too small and the cam-followers would often become misaligned. For the final draft of the model, I doubled the size and prevented misalignment. However, I ran into the problem I anticipated with the obstruction of movement of the cam-followers.

With a display stand size identical to that in Keisuke Saka's book, a working model would not be possible. I was not able to do a third model with further experimentation in sizing due to time constraints. In future production of the "Impatience" model, a display stand twice the size of that in Keisuke Saka's book would be recommended to provide adequate spacing for the cam-followers.
