Introduction and Background - MMW

Most automotive windshield wiper mechanisms use multiple blades in parallel to achieve greater coverage of the approximately rectangular windshield. However, in the late 1990s Mercedes-Benz engineers created an "eccentric sweep" wiper setup that used a single blade which moved outwards at the corners of its arc for greater coverage instead of using multiple wipers. 

We wanted to recreate this mechanism since it had a reasonable amount of complexity and was used in a real world application that reached consumers.
