Conclusions & Future Recommendations
While our final prototype did an excellent job at showing that our concept worked, and was able to grip and pull rope held by the team members, there were certain things that would be changed before using this on a boat, including:
- Ball bearing instead of acrylic rings for the inner and outer front rings to reduce friction, allowing for the back ring to hold the entire device stationary
- A friction/padding for the back ring to increase comfort
- Higher quality material to allow for a stronger final product
While our group attempted to fix many of the issues, including friction through this project, we were limited by cost and ability to machine parts. Keeping these things in mind however, our final product shows the ability of our design to function effectively.
